Beat the Bug when Travelling

Published on 12th December 2016

It comes as part of the business traveller deal…back to back meetings, no lunch break, travel delays and disturbed sleep from inconsiderate hotel room neighbours. What could be worse? Back to back meetings, no lunch break, travel delays and disturbed sleep from inconsiderate hotel room neighbours while suffering from a bad case of the sniffles, that’s what.

Worse still, you can’t take to bed and hide under the duvet – there are always meetings to attend, deadlines to meet or a flight to catch home.

Travelling exposes you to more environments and more germs and unfortunately getting ill is part of life. The good news though is that there’s a lot you can do to avoid contracting the dreaded lurgy in the first place. Here are our top tips:

Vaccines and Medicines

It’s always a good idea to make sure our general health is good. Prevention is often better than cure and for those who travel; the flu jab is a really good idea. You don’t have to travel with a mobile pharmacy, just carry some essentials like pain killers, cold relief and Vitamin C in case you do catch something!

Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel

Good hand hygiene is right at the top of the list to stopping the transfer and spread of a lot of infections. You can’t always wash your hands easily when travelling (and we know the horror stories of contamination on public transport) but you can slather your hands in sanitizer!

Hydration, Hydration, Hydration

Water is your friend, remember that. Good for boosting your immune system and flushing nasty toxins, make sure you’re armed with a supply whenever you’re on the move.

Gastronomic not Gastrointestinal

No one wants an upset stomach at any time and even less so when away from home. So watch what you eat…who knows how long that burgeoning banquet of sandwiches has been sitting there…?
